Fire Rated Ductwork & Smoke Control

Fire-resisting ductwork, smoke extract and fire-rated kitchen extract installed to the project fire strategy and tested system requirements.

Fire-resisting ductwork is only as good as its installation. Performance is derived from a tested system — the duct construction, support method, penetration detail and jointing all form part of that test evidence, and substituting any element without justification undermines it.

We install fire-rated ductwork strictly in accordance with the specified system, the manufacturer's installation requirements and the project fire strategy, and we provide the installation records required for the building's handover documentation.

Working to the specified system

Where a specific fire-rated ductwork system is specified, it is installed to that system's tested details — including board or coating build-up, support centres, hanger specification and penetration detailing. Where a specification is open, we will ask the design team to confirm the intended system and rating before ordering.

We do not substitute proprietary systems or claim performance for combinations that have not been tested together.

Compartmentation and fire stopping

Penetrations through fire-resisting construction are a shared interface between the ductwork, fire stopping and builders-work packages. Responsibility, sequence and detail are agreed with the main contractor before installation so that penetrations are completed, inspected and recorded rather than left to the end of the job.

Smoke control applications

Smoke extract ductwork is installed to the classification and rating called for in the fire strategy, with attention to leakage, support integrity under fire conditions and interfaces with shaft construction and smoke dampers.

Documentation

Installation records, product data for the installed system and penetration records are provided for inclusion in the O&M and fire safety information for the building.
